Libya and the elephant in the room

To quote good old Terry Wogan - 'is it me?'

This country is struggling through our recovery from recession, cuts are slicing through public services, prices are rising across the board, making life continually difficult for many. Let's face it cash is tight - especially for the government.

OK - so Gadaffi's regime is/was dictatorial and unpleasant - sorry but is that new news? The people working out in Libya chose to be there, the risk/reward of working in the country having been deemed to be worth it.

So how come no-one seems to be mentioning the elephant in the room regarding the rescue of British nationals out of Libya?  I'm not saying they shouldn't have helped them out but what stops the government asking for payment or at least a contribution from the cash rich oil companies employing them?

In my simple world, if a company provides a service they ask for payment.  If they provide an essential emergency service they add a premium to the invoice!  My question to this current administration is - have you invoiced anybody yet?  The oil guys aren't going to offer to pay for the aircraft, ferries and Royal Navy craft purloined but as Jack Canfield says - 'if you don't ask you can't get'.

On another note, there's the question of responsibility.   The basis for any coaching partnership I have is that my clients have taken on the mantle of responsibility for where they are in their life right now.  This is nothing to do with blame of self or others, but of accepting that you have arrived at where you are by the choices you have made.  This act of accepting responsibility builds a platform from which you can spring into the future.

To my knowledge the people working out in Libya were there due to their own decisions based on the needs and knowledge they had at the time.  To hear some of them complaining and blaming the Government for taking too long to get them out makes me realise they may have missed this first important step.
