I’ve just heard a snippet on the radio news saying that the number of weight loss operations performed on the NHS has increased tenfold in the last decade.
Now – I don’t know about you but for me this raises a number of questions!!
If these patients are unable to control their food intake prior to the op, how on earth are they going to manage to eat tiny meals forever more?
If they do manage to eat only the small amounts of food now accepted by their reduced stomach size, how will they get the nutrients their bodies need to be healthy and vital?
And where does personal responsibility come into all this? Does the fact that these operations are becoming more readily available reduce the likelihood of these patients accepting responsibility for their own health?
Can you treat the body successfully without treating the mind? Is it me or doesn’t mindset and attitude play a massive part in the health of our nation?
Unfortunately you can’t simply pop a pill or have an operation to make permanent changes in outlook and attitude – it has to be addressed consciously. And again, the first step is to take full responsibility for where you are right now.
Now I’m not perfect – what is perfect anyway? I’ve made poor choices in the past but hey! they were my choices. Where I am now is completely down to me which is great because that means if I want to change anything I can!
I believe I have everything I need inside me to make any changes I want. And I accept that my results are down to me. Yes, it’s great to have a support network or people to learn from but at the end of the day everything I do – or don’t do – is down to me.
For some people this outlook can feel daunting – but viewed from a different perspective, it is totally freeing – you are in control. You have the power to be, do and have anything you want – it might just take a little effort on your part though.
OK – rant over – passion is a great thing!
Enjoy your weekend!
